- - - BANG! - - -
Bang!’ shows the Liverpool school of Art and Design Degree Show for what it is and should be - a celebration. it’s built up to be the “culmination of 3 years work“ and yet it feels like a regular exhibition; which the Degree Show is anything but a regular exhibition, its the students moment, the students exhibition, hell for some people it’s their only exhibition.
So if it’s supposed to be a celebration, why has it been portrayed as the end of the world, the beginning of the digital age or simply a moment in time? Why have ex-students felt underwhelmed by the design that has been chosen to promote and represent the show? If it’s a positive moment I’ll remember in the years to come, why wouldn’t I want it to look like a celebration?.
I’ve heard students say that they would prefer to go to the Degree Show rather than their own graduation, because it’s their moment, not a bragging right for their parents to claim credit for raising a university graduate - so why not make their moment shine as brightly as possible, and let them explode onto the scene with ‘bang!’.
- - - DEAD RAT SOUP - - -
Think Green Day but a bit more rodent-y! This Concept Merchandise Design for a band named includes the origins of the name in the design and documents a tour which I actually completed myself.
This project originally started as an ode to my job, selling merchandise at various stadiums and arenas across the UK.
Dead Rat Soup was inspired by a reference a friend made towards a jar of fake rats in water I was gifted.
I had wanted a reason to explore Screenprinting after going to see Paul McCartney in concert - his merchandise design reminded me of screenprinting wth these lava lamp style multicoloured blobs. As you’ll be able to see on the right, there were a few issues I had with printing but later on when i had taken a break I actually noticed that it actually suited the style relatively well. I shall reexplore further merchandise designs in the future , because of the sucesses of this project.
- - - TO ALL AT THE ALEX - - -
My parents ran the local pub, so growing up, everything had something to do with the Alex. When you’re a kid listening to the music blaring from below, and hearing the next day about ‘how great last night was’ you cant help but feel like youre missing out on what might’ve been the best night of your life.
This book documents the best nights of some peoples lives, and the community and culture that forms around good people, good beer and good times.
- - - LIFESTYLES OF THE POOR AND FANCIFUL - - -
I wrote an exploration of Art Colonies and wanted to emulate this idea of creating ‘Indiana Jones’s Journal’- where as hes’s exploring one of these communities, he’s documenting and sketching out some of the features.
- - - HIDDEN - - -
Hidden was an App that created a treasure hunt searching for those hospitality ‘hidden gems’, from cosy pubs to all night raves.
The Posters were inspired by pub and rave culture of the early 2000’s - there was rather a strong punk rock hold on rural Gwynedd back then, to which the North Wales coast has still not recovered from (Use Somebody by Kings of Leon springs to mind)
(i also designed some of the posters that i was inspired by...)
